Next week at the Lie-Nielsen Open House I will be bringing
some M&T stuff to pass around at my demonstration booth. First of all, because
this magazine is pretty different than other typical woodworking magazines, I
thought it would be good to bring a prototype of sorts to give the visitors a
tactile sense of what the magazine will be. Warning though: there is virtually
no intelligible writing in this prototype issue. Think of this more like the
cardboard mock-up of your chest of drawers before you build the actual piece. It
gives you the sense of thing but you know the details will be worked out later.
I got the issue in the mail the other day and I’ve gotta say
there’s nothing quite like print. Since the beginning of this project, I’ve
been asked over and over if this was going to be a digital magazine. Although
emailing ones and zeros would be a lot cheaper than paying the printer, the
experience of reading a high quality print publication is so superior it’s not
even worth comparing the two.
When you’re at my booth grab a free sticker too. I don’t
have an infinite supply so first come, first serve.

Next weekend, come to Lie-Nielsen and say hi. Take a peak at
the magazine. I wanna bounce these ideas off you guys to see what works and
what doesn’t. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
I am looking forward to the magazines debut quite enthusiastically. I would rather have print, even tho I do have various digital devises to hold books. I have many books and magazines and enjoy them always. I am glad I have been able to follow along as it gets closer. Sort of makes me feel like an insider :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shirt by the way :)
Can you hold some stickers for Saturday? I know you said first come first serve but if you give them all away on Friday, those of us who cant get there until Saturday will miss out! Can't wait to see the mock up mag and to meet you!
ReplyDeleteThat's the plan. I'll have some each day.
DeleteAwesome thanks!
DeleteVery cool Josh. Im looking forward to the first issue.
ReplyDeleteDude! Like the sticker and t-shirt! I hope you have those shirts for sale eventually; I would love to have one. I'm really looking forward to your magazine. How do we go about subscribing for it?
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to seeing your preview of the magazine at the LN Open House. I will be there on Friday so hopefully I get there in time for a sticker. I agree that a t-shirt for sale would be a great idea and I certainly would buy one.
ReplyDeleteI just recently heard about this magazine by looking at the demonstrator list on the LN website and am really glad that I did. The woodworking community needs a new magazine and this looks as though it is exactly the kind of style of writing that I have been longing for. I have learned a lot from the other magazines out there but there comes a point when we get tired of reading the same articles over and over, not all of us are still beginning this trade/hobby. I wish you the best of luck in getting this published (yes a published version is much preferred over digital!) and look forward to reading it. This is very exciting stuff.
