Half Blind Dovetail Repair

I recently received this drawer into the studio for repair. During transit, the half blind dovetails were fractured on one side. Here is a brief photo collection of the repair process.

Grafting a new piece on, chopping out the pins.

Fit and inpainted.

  1. The broken section seemed to have plenty of surface for regluing. I don't understand your decision to cut away the old wood and replace.

  2. Point taken. I just wanted to make sure that the glue surface was large enough to be able to withstand a full heavy drawer being pulled open and closed. I trusted this repair for that more. Thanks for asking though. There is almost always another defensible approach than the one I decide to follow through on.
